Teachers’ Tutoring Service is a Vancouver-based non-profit tutoring organization established in 1983 with support from the BC Teachers’ Federation. It connects students with private tutors for math and other subjects throughout Vancouver and Metro Vancouver. Tutoring is available in person and online, with in-person sessions commonly taking place in the student's home, a library or another agreed location. TTS uses a referral model: families describe the subject and tutoring needs, receive available tutor options and choose the tutor they feel is the best fit. The organization reports a roster of more than 200 tutors and emphasizes BC curriculum experience. Its Vancouver math service covers elementary math, current BC secondary math courses and college/university mathematics. TTS has tutors with experience supporting students with learning differences and special education needs, including tutors who work with autism, dyslexia and ADHD; availability depends on tutor matching. TTS has a Vancouver office at 3325 W. 4th Avenue, but its tutoring sessions are typically arranged in the student's home, at another mutually agreed location such as a library, or online. Tutoring schedules are arranged separately between families and tutors.
Teaching approach: Teachers’ Tutoring Service operates as a tutor-matching service. Families submit their grade, subject, location and tutoring needs, and TTS provides available tutor options with short biographies. Families can review the options, correspond with tutors and choose the tutor they prefer. Tutoring is then scheduled directly between the family and tutor, with no required long-term contract.
Sessions are typically one hour; some tutors may offer 30-minute sessions for younger students. Office hours during the school year are Monday–Thursday 9:00 AM–5:00 PM and Friday 9:00 AM–4:00 PM. During spring, summer and winter breaks, the office is generally open Monday–Friday 9:00 AM–3:00 PM, and it is closed from Christmas to New Year's Day. Tutoring schedules are arranged separately between families and tutors.
