Teaching approach: Oxford Learning describes its programs as personalized and based on a cognitive-learning approach: alongside subject content such as math, sessions aim to build the thinking, focus and study skills a student needs to keep up independently. New students typically begin with Oxford's Dynamic Assessment, which the company describes as a proprietary combination of licensed testing activities that shows both a student's academic skills and how the student thinks and learns. The assessment is not advertised as free.
To start, families call the Callingwood centre at 780-433-0078 or visit Unit #224 in MarketPlace at Callingwood. A Dynamic Assessment comes first for new students, then a personalized program is set up. Regular sessions use Oxford's small-table format of about three students per teacher, held at the centre on weekday afternoons and evenings or Saturdays, with online tutoring also available.
